Dear friends,

I hope this letter finds you well and highly favoured!
The last month has been a good one for us…we have had an increase in bookings at our Centre, we were part of the global Good Friday broadcast outreach which was televised in over 100 countries, Charlene and I celebrated 15 years of marriage, and the 23rd of March marked the 18th anniversary of Jesus saving me!

Over the years, I have come to know and experience many of the amazing attributes of our Heavenly Father, and I am still discovering more! One of His attributes that has stood out for me is that He is a Promise-keeper…

“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.”
Hebrews 10:23 NIV

During the night, following my conversion, God started giving me vision for what He wanted me to do…these things, and in particular preaching, were impossible through my own abilities. Growing up, I was terrified of public speaking and would try to hide and avoid speaking in class at school. This shyness was also one of the reasons that I drank heavily before I knew the Lord, as it helped me to socialise, but unfortunately it also led to a lot of trouble and rather anti-social behaviour like bar-fights. So when God asked me to preach, I wasn’t sure how I was going to manage it, but I thank God that He helps us to do His work! He instantly set me free from my alcohol addiction when He saved me, and also gave me a boldness to share the Good News…which I did, firstly with family members and a few visitors, then on the streets of London, and later in church settings, on mission trips, TV, radio, and even in parliament. I have been blessed to stand before crowds of thousands of people, have ministered in 15 countries, and on 4 continents. God is a promise-keeper!

Greetings AE family,

During March, our team embarked on a mission to Paddock. Although the Foxies have not been commissioned yet, we used this mission as training grounds for ministry. We departed from AE on Friday, the 19^th of March 2021, and our mission started as soon as we arrived! Our first stop was Shobeni, where we joined the leaders of the local church.

We were split into small groups and went door to door to pray for people in their homes. Matthew 28 verse 18 says, “All authority on Heaven and on Earth has been given to me, therefore go and make disciples of all nations.”
We then had an open air gathering, where the Foxies ministered through dance, testimonies and Word.
Our ministry group was expanded when we were later joined by the One Life DLA and Mpendle teams.
We had a meet and greet on Friday night and we prayed together.

The excitement was overwhelming as we all arrived at KwaNyuswa and then KwaNodalan on Saturday. Once again, we were split into teams to go door to door and also to distribute bread at the same time. This is in accordance with AE’s mission statement, “Evangelising the cities of Africa through word and deed in partnership with the local church.”
Throughout the weekend, we had open air meetings where the Foxies performed dance and drama and all the teams ministered and shared their testimonies. One of the highlights of our mission was the revival that took place on Saturday night. Many people from the communities that we visited accepted the invite and arrived for the revival. The Spirit of the Lord was evident in that place and the church was alive.

On Sunday, we ministered at three different services in three different churches at three different locations. The highlight of our mission was the way in which God revealed His message to the speakers, from the testimonies, to the worship and even the preaching; everything was aligned to a common theme despite the fact that the organisers and leaders did not give anyone a theme to work from!

Karibu Kenya! Welcome to Kenya

African Enterprise’s International Team Leader, Dr Stephen Mbogo, welcomed the 18 participants from 11 countries across Africa before leading the devotion which he based on Numbers 11: 11-14. He emphasized that God’s call is not just for socio-economic and political freedom but to holistic change from the inside out…“For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, but lose his soul?”.

The training centered around the establishment of Community Transformation Groups (CTGs) which African Enterprise is intent on rolling out in 2021 as a Social Action program for all teams. The concept of a CTG is the empowering of community through the church (Spiritual) to take ownership of the challenges (Economic and Social) which they face as individuals and a community and to actively seek and address them through the pooling of resources which they already possess.

Two models of CTGs that have already been developed and rolled out were presented at the training; Tearfund’s Church and Community Mobilisation Process (CCMP) and The Chalmers’ Restore: Savings Groups (RSG); the former model has already been successfully rolled out by AE Rwanda.
The Social Action team members were tasked with unpacking these to identify key elements from these approaches that may be applicable in the implementation of CTGs in line with African Enterprise’s core business of evangelism through word and deed. There was unanimous acceptance that the concept of CTGs is a progressive tool for community transformation and consensus that an AE model should be implemented as part of the social action program. We are excited to engage with the church and our indigent communities to take this program forward!

The team at AE International (AEI) were most hospitable and arranged a very professional, intensive and effective training for the delegates. Apart from the shared knowledge and commitment to the cause, the spirit of family was evident from the moment the delegates met each other, many for the very first time.

Life Line quite literally threw us a life line when they booked six nights each for two groups; and then the flood gates opened. Just as one of the Life Line groups was leaving after their week-long stay with us, we found ourselves hosting four separate groups for meetings or ministry. We were incredibly busy, and it was wonderful to see that although the staff are tired, there is a definite sense of joy at the prospect of being busy again.

The Centre’s Facebook page is up and running (The Centre at African Enterprise), so I would like to invite you all to ‘like’ and share our page. We will be having exciting competitions where you stand a chance to win a retreat, fun team build or free accommodation! We also ask you to join us in praying that the predicted “third wave” of the COVID pandemic is averted, for the health and safety of us all and for the health of our economy.

The Legacy project continues to make steady progress on all fronts.

We are glad to report on the highly anticipated documentary, The Miracle of South Africa’s Democracy, which has been undertaken by the Legacy Foundation. The documentary is in the final stages of completion and we are very pleased with the outcome. Design is underway on the imagery and branding, with a number of promotional and workshop materials being created.

It was with sadness that we learnt of both King Goodwill Zwelithini and Dr Frank Mdlalose’s deaths this last month. It was a privilege for the film team to interview and have subsequent conversations with Dr Frank Mdlalose. He was an exceptionally wise, warm, and engaging person with a sincere love and concern for South Africa. Theuns also had the privilege last year to have dinner with King Goodwill Zwelithini along with Michael Cassidy, Pearl Kupe and Robin and Jacqui Stephenson to discuss the dangers of Comprehensive Sexuality Education that the government is rolling out in schools and to speak about Christian values curriculum alternatives. We were then invited by the King to attend the opening of the 2020 KZN legislature. The King spoke very boldly against CSE and encouraged the Christian values alternatives. Both these men have had longstanding friendships with Michael. The documentary is intended to be a gift of good news to the nation and also to honour the generation of leaders that fought the battle for South Africa with courage and trust in God.
